Storage Tank Investigations and Decommissioning
The White Shield team has extensive experience investigating and coordinating efforts to identify, quantify, and abate leaking underground storage tanks (USTs) and above-ground storage tanks (AGSTs).
Our environmental professionals are trained in the characterization of tank sites, and the removal of a wide range of contaminated site materials, including hazardous and non-hazardous waste media. This expertise includes ancillary services typically associated with successful removal actions such as surgical excavation, dewatering, shoring, backfill, landscaping, and site restoration.
When performing these activities, the certified site assesor considers the nature of the contaminant, the geologic and hydrogeologic setting, and other site-specific conditions including proximity to subsurface structures and water supply wells. Measurement methods, sample types and sample locations are chosen to best identify the presence and extent of contamination. Non-intrusive detection techniques such as Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) can be employed to assess unknown tank locations, and minimize disruptions to site activities.
